John Copeland is a 23 year old musician living in Chicago, IL. He was born and raised in Libertyville, IL. In 2023, He graduated from Columbia College-Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in Music Business with a focus in Live Entertainment

John Copeland always had an interest in music, and when he was 16, he took initiative and began to teach himself how to play piano. Being heavily inspired by artists such as King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and Radiohead, he began to delve into the world of synthesizers. In 2017, John joined Fun Monkey, a psychedelic funk band based in Libertyville. With this band, he continued to develop his playing and songwriting abilities, and he learned the fundamentals of working within a team environment and collaboration. Fun Monkey released numerous singles, an EP, and a full-length album, and they played live shows at many renowned venues such as Bottom Lounge, Reggies Rock Club, Beat Kitchen, and Old Town School of Folk Music. John now plays in a psychedelic rock band called “Isn’t It Strange” in Chicago, and they just released their first EP, Ham (Side A), on March 11th, 2023.

As well as being in a band, John Copeland has engaged in some fantastic course at Columbia College-Chicago. This included the Club Management Practicum course in which John helped organize music events from the ground up which included venue rentals, digital and print marketing, talent buying, and sponsor acquisition. John also took a Digital Media Strategies course in which he created a digital marketing strategy for a hypothetical McDonald’s marketing plan. This included Audience analysis, SWOT analysis, digital content strategy and competitive analysis.
